DIASPORA DIPLOMACY

What is diaspora diplomacy?

In today’s interconnected world, international relations are evolving rapidly. One major change is the growing influence of non-state international actors (NSAs).
Among these, diasporas have emerged as independent and influential global actors. They connect societies, foster economic and cultural exchange, and shape international agendas in their own right.
Although many governments still view diasporas primarily as tools for promoting national interests, the idea of independent “diaspora diplomacy” is gaining momentum. This concept recognizes diasporas as autonomous transnational actors capable of influencing both their host and home countries, while also playing a vital role in shaping the broader dynamics of international relations.

DIASPORA IS A NEW TOOL IN PUBLIC DIPLOMACY

Public diplomacy goes beyond traditional government-to-government relations. It focuses on communication among diverse actors and aims to deliver key messages not directly to decision-makers, but to the broader audiences who can influence them.
