LEGAL DIPLOMACY

Contract Stamp Approval

Legal diplomacy is a new concept that encompasses both the application of legal methods to pursue political, economic, and cultural objectives and, conversely, the use of diplomatic means to fulfill legal goals.
The Institute focuses on

  • the role that non-state actors play in international law by analyzing their legal status and obligations,

  • ways in which NGOs and other non-state actors influence processes of diplomacy and international law making,

  • how non-state actors engage in global legal-diplomatic processes that elaborate, interpret, and enforce international norms and the international rule of law.

Call for Contributions

The Institute approaches law and diplomacy as interdependent. Both diplomacy and law aim at the effective management of international relations, the peaceful resolution of international disputes, and the development of mechanisms that promote economic growth and stability.

Interested contributors should submit a proposal of no more than 400 words. Proposals should include a description of how the proposed entry addresses the mission of the Institute, how non-state actors may employ legal instruments to advance political, economic, and cultural interests, and how diplomacy may be used to support legal outcomes such as justice and the rule of law. We welcome proposals from early-career researchers, as well as established scholars and public diplomacy practitioners.

Please include your CV with your proposal.

We're co-designers, co-producers and co-consumers of public diplomacy.
